I had a blog once before. For about two minutes. I think I made the initial post, and that was really only intended to be a space saver, then I never went back. Why is that? Why is it that so many people start things and never finish them?
For me, I think it was because I didn’t really know what I was going to write when I started the blog. The blog never had an initial reason for existing. Poor blog. But this one already has a purpose. Its purpose is to allow me to write blog posts.
You see, I often have these ideas, sudden bursts of inspiration. Or even just little pops of creative thought. For these I would always grab the nearest piece of scrap paper and jot it down. Lots of little pieces of paper get disorganized (or lost!) really quickly. “A notebook!” people said. Can I tell you how many notebooks I have in random places in my house? I am not an organized person. So maybe that is why people never finish things they start: they get disorganized and then frustrated.
But even if a blog, or any other project, has organization, there’s still no guarantee there will be follow through. So then is it time? Is lack of time the problem? I have always wished for about 5 more hours in a day. Also maybe 5 more hours in a night, because this girl enjoys her sleep.
Or is it that people start things and expect an instant reward? When they don’t get that reward, they give up and consider the project a failure. Or worse, consider themselves a failure. Instant gratification seems to be more and more of a theme now, what with the internet existing, cellphones to traverse that internet. People seem to expect a responding text in less than 60 seconds. They want affirmation. Confirmation? One of those -mation words. So they start a blog and when no one sees it after 60 seconds to marvel at the genius of it, then it’s deemed a failure.
So I think I’ve already answered my question about the purpose of this blog and why it will not be forgotten like tiny scraps of paper. It’s purpose is to be a Blog. For recording thoughts as they come to me. Because yes, I have a cellphone to traverse the internet, and that cellphone has an app that will let me quickly jot down an informal blog post. Kind of like a on-the-fly grocery list, just hopefully with healthier items than would normally appear on my grocery list. It will still probably be unorganized. Even less organized than my grocery lists, which are organized into how my grocery store is laid out. Bread products first, then eggs, beer… you get the idea.
And I won’t expect you to marvel at the genius of this Blog. Hopefully it won’t even come across as genius. I prefer crazy. Because crazy begets crazy and if you’re ANY kind of crazy, then you can help MY kind of crazy if you decide to comment on the crazy. But I won’t expect your comments to appear in less than 60 seconds, because I know you’re busy organizing your own crazy. And I won’t consider your comments a reward, or confirmation. I will consider them helpful. Even if they’re not nice comments. But I hope you won’t spend too much time writing not-nice comments. Hell, you’ve got your own crazy to organize and there’s only 34 hours in a day.
